Need Help Finding a Fully Itemized List of Equipment! - Wolfy71 - 09-05-2012
I've recently been diagnosed with severe sleep hypopnea disorder - and my specialist also recommended that I get a machine. If I remember correctly, she said that a nasal mask would be best because I should train my mouth to stay shut when I sleep (apparently.) I have a not very bushy goatee and a kind of average jaw line - If that helps advising on the fit.
Living in the East, I have to make sure I purchase correctly, and get the whole kit & kaboodle, at once. Can anyone help me with finding a fully itemized list of everything I will need? I need to know about all the fiddly little extras and any consumables that may be necessary to buy a lasting supply of.

there is a supplier list at the top of main page ,I believe the ResMed S9 autoset is a great machine and lots of people use them it will track your info so you can see whats going on ,try Supplier #2 but several are good make sure you can exchange the mask, some times they are hard to get to fit I use the nasal mask and like it a lot

It's unrealistic to try to purchase everything all at once since everyone's needs are different, and there is a lot of trial and error involved. Over the past several months, I have purchased items from three suppliers on the supplier list, as well as eBay and Craigslist.
FWIW, I have 2 machines, 3 masks, 3 hoses, 6 spare mask cushions, various spare mask parts, a dozen spare filters for each machine, several headgear of various sizes, several chinstraps of various types, a data card reader, a hose brush, mask wipes, and Control III disinfectant. I probably have an excessive number of spare mask cushions and filters, but I found good deals for them on eBay. It won't be useful to give you an itemized list of the spare mask parts since each mask is different.
It is helpful to have a spare of each item, or two spares if you expect to have difficulty getting replacements.

Depends on the machine and the mask. Some masks need regular parts changing. Some don't. Some machines have two filters, some don't. Some filters are good for longer, some not. Some filters are re-usable, most are not.
But, in general terms:
mask - This will be the hardest part since you could go through a dozen or more before you find one you like. And it's not try it on in the store kind of thing, either. You have to use it.
Associated with the mask is the headgear (almost always included in mask purchase), the interface (nasal pillows, nasal mask, full face mask each have different parts), and nearly all of them have a hose that goes from the mask to the regular hose
hose from mask (or its hose) to machine - there's different kinds based on season, need, and brand. Resmed has slimline (narrow) and climateline (heated). Respironics has a heated hose now
machine - at minimal you need a data capable (not just compliance data so no Resmed Escape anything or a Respirionics Plus anything); an auto-PAP is ideal; but you may need a bilevel PAP or, if you have central apnea or mixed apnea, a variable PAP
Associated with the machine will be the filters, humidifier parts (a humidifier is either integrated into the design or is a separate part; included in the humidifier will be the tank and probably a gasket of some type)
Also associated with the machine will be alternative power source. All of them come with cords, of course, but if you are a camper or live where power outage is likely, then you may want to invest in a battery backup system.
In other words, there's really not a definitive list. There's too many variables.

I'm curious, Wolfy, you live in the East what? East, USA; MiddleEast; far-East?
Normally,in the US, the sleep therapists will recommend a source for your equipment. And the suppliers (referred to as DMEs) will work with you to make sure you get the proper equipment. Very seldom does one have to obtain everything for themselves on the first time acquisition.
