It was a local directory in the default location. I moved it off the computer to a connected network drive before starting the new installation. I then copied the data from the network drive into the new profile. That populated the new profile with the years of data that were stored. I think that there must have been a startup file that caused Sleepyhead to fail. It may have tried loading an invalid user profile that caused repeated crashes.
The lesson is, if repeated reinstalls of the program fail, back up the user profiles and delete them from the default location or where Sleepyhead points to find the data.

yes, clean profiles help in most cases.
maybe it was not SH screwing up - but your hard-drive or windows starting to fail^^ ... might be the time to check your S.M.A.R.T. values and finally make the long overdue backup^^
