CPAP Supplies Help - Louis Payan - 11-13-2017

Hello.

Is there someplace I can go to register for regular CPAP supplies or at least check if I’m supposed to be on some supply list somewhere? Some years back I was called after visiting the Sleep Study Center and told I would receive regular supplies every 6 months.

It’s been 2+ years now and aside from the initial shipment I’ve received nothing. I know I’m being scammed; yet I don’t know what recourse I have.

Where do I start? How can I stop someone else from being registered as me?

If you or your insurance isn't being billed than your not being scammed. Check with the DME where you got the machine and ask about supplies. If your not using insurance than your better off price wise to buy them online.

Check with your insurance, then the DME/Supplier.

Why do you think you are being scammed? Are you billed for supplies not received?

I wouldn’t just depend on a Supplier or DME to send supplies. You will have to be proactive and contact them.

Louis, the answers above are correct. Often, insurance companies require the patient to call for supplies and specifically prohibit automatic shipments. So you need to take responsibility to call your supplier and inform them of your needs. They will probably tell you what you qualify for if you ask.

Please be sure to also get copies of your prescription and sleep study results. These documents will continue to save you money and ensure you can obtain equipment and supplies in the future. Your Resmed Sullivan Humidaire LR76410 is very out-dated and should have been replaced many years ago. This model was replaced by the S8 Autoset, followed by the S9 and current Airsense 10. You are due for a new machine. I recommend you contact insurance about in-network providers, or if you have a high deductible and co-pay, consider purchasing a replacement through Amazon or another supplier that offers lower costs.

You most likely need a new prescription in order to obtain equipment and services. Start by contacting your regular doctor and ask him if he will issue the needed prescription. You may need a new sleep study if you cannot document your original diagnosis, however, if that comes up, please let us help you to perhaps get around that requirement or use a less expensive home study. If you do have your original prescription, that may avoid the need for a new study. Most online suppliers like Supplier #1 will take a copy of your old prescription and will sell you equipment, and others like Amazon will never ask. The big question is whether you intend to use insurance or not.
