CPAP question [smell after storage] - Dyinginmysleep - 01-21-2018 Long story short i got a remstar pro c-flex + in summer of 2014. I used it for a couple weeks and then stopped. For the life of me i couldn't get used to it, add in a couple sinus infections and i was done with it, and decided to try sleeping on my side instead. It worked for a while, but now im back to waking up feeling like im drowning. So i dug out my machine and gonna give it another shot. I cleaned the hoses, the mask and replaced the filter on it. However it sat in my basement for a cool 3.5 years and the air coming out of it smells like my basement. How do i clean the actual machine and make sure that theres no debris, mold or any other wonderful surprises before hooking up to this thing again? Thanks in advance RE: CPAP question - paulag1955 - 01-21-2018 I would try just letting it run for several hours and see if that helps. RE: CPAP question [smell after storage] - PaulaO2 - 01-21-2018 Change the filter, the hose, and the mask. Let it run for a while with the new filter on. RE: CPAP question [smell after storage] - paulag1955 - 01-21-2018 After giving it some more thought, if your device has a humidifier, you could try adding 2 or three drops of a sanitizing essential oil to the water before letting it run. Some options would be Tea Tree, Oregano, Thyme, Eucalyptus, Cinnamon leaf, Geranium, Rosemary, Lavender; or Peppermint. Then clean your humidifier reservoir well before using. RE: CPAP question [smell after storage] - Dyinginmysleep - 01-22-2018 Thanks for the replies. Is it possible to get inside the actual unit to clean it out? RE: CPAP question [smell after storage] - Sleeprider - 01-22-2018 I have permanently deoderized units, even from a smoker's household using Ozium. Just spray Ozium (available at auto parts stores) onto a cotton ball or piece of cloth, and place it near the air intake. Do not spray into the machine. It clears out odors and doesn't leave odor behind. RE: CPAP question [smell after storage] - trish6hundred - 01-22-2018 Hi Dyinginmysleep, WELCOME! to the forum.! Better luck with CPAP therapy this time around. Hang in there for more responses to your post. Yes, you can get inside it, however, if you are not used to taking electronic things to bits with small pressure pipes I wouldn't go there. Also the clips on the fan and motor are very easy to break and if it is that old they will be very brittle. I would try anything before opening it up. There is a lot of foam type rubber inside that will take on smalls, I got a machine that had a bit of a small to it, I took it to bits and although it helped I never quite got rid of the small (just a slight hint remains). Though the foam rubber should not affect it as it is not involved in the transport of air. Quote:Sleeprider wrote: What is that? I have never heard of it here? Got to be something I should work out for myself. RE: CPAP question [smell after storage] - Crimson Nape - 01-23-2018 Ozium has been around for almost 40 years. I first saw it at FBOs (Fixed Base Operator) at the airports. It is excellent at removing any smoker and/or air sickness odors. RE: CPAP question [smell after storage] - Walla Walla - 01-23-2018 You can find it online pretty easy. |
