Even though my AHI runs <5 most of the time, I have what I think are long events. Some of my events last 30-46 seconds, and can be grouped close together with a 5 second space in between. This seems like a long time not to breathe to me. Is there anyone else here with long events like that? Do your events cause you to wake up with heart palpitations or a racing heart of 100+bpm?

I know this doesn't count I guess, but I had a 90 second central apnea during the sleep study last year.
Otherwise, no I don't really keep track of the info much right now.

I'd get a sleepyhead chart up, if they are oa/h, they normally respond to more min pressure. You have been on cpap since oct, even under 12 weeks, excessive and long duration CA are a different kettle of fish and need to be referred back to your doctor.

I have scary long events. My longest is 88 seconds, but I had a couple almost that long during sleep studies and many others besides. One night, I had 8 untreated events over 40 seconds.
I have not been treated effectively for this problem.

I forgot to add earlier, I'm thinking back to the Summer of last year, that yes some apnea events did wake me and I'd experience palpitations.

Surely, anything over 40 seconds has got to be scary. Your body's autonomic system's reaction to the CO2 build up in your lungs is what triggers a breath (probably a loud gasp in these circumstances). Usually, it triggers well before the 30 second point and I notice that very few of my OAs go over the 30 second mark. But 88 seconds, is this for an OA? If so that's death defyingly scary.
To go back to the OP, the heart palpitations and racing heart are it's attempts to get as much O2 into your body in as short a time as possible because you need it.
