How does ResMed transmit data to SH? - tlippy - 07-20-2018

When I set up my machine I was never required to enter my internet access password.  My WiFi router is password protected.  How does ResMed transmit data to my doctor and SleepyHead?

Via a cellular modem.

If I didn't have a cell phone I would have to take my SD card to my supplier and Doctor?

As Crimson Nape noted, ResMed machines come with a built-in cellular data connection that transmits to ResMed.  You, your DME and your doctor can all view this data online through their AirView system.

Cellular data is expensive when you are paying for hundreds of thousands of machines so ResMed doesn't transmit the full high resolution (25 samples per second) recordings that are on the SD card. You get a better view of the data using Sleepyhead than your doctor does using AirView.

The ResMed machine doesn't need anything of yours or connect to anything of yours. It is fully self-contained and has a built in cell phone data transmitter and receiver. It transmits your data to ResMed and receives prescription setting updates from your doctor through ResMed's system. It does not use your cell phone, nor your WiFi. It includes a free cellular data connection paid for by ResMed. It starts working as soon as you plug the machine in. There are no settings to make or adjust. It is preset. All your doctor needs is to know the serial number and device number of your machine.

And finally, SleepyHead gets its data from your SD card. You have to remove the card from your CPAP machine and put it into a reader either in or attached to your computer. Some people use an SD card that has a WiFi transceiver that connects to your home router and computer, but for starting out, it's easier just to move the SD card.

The only way SleepyHead gets your data is when you use the SD card on your computer. The data stays on your computer.
