How to quote a post - PaulaO2 - 01-10-2013

There's been some mess up posts lately with folks using the "reply with quote" button.

It is not necessary to even use it. Sometimes all you need to do is say something like:

Paula, about what you said earlier:.....

You don't even need to use the "reply with quote" button in order to reply. At the bottom is a big blank space to write what you have to say. Or use the "new reply" button just above that blank space.

But if you feel the need to, or if the post you are replying to was, like, five posts earlier, then here's how to use it:

The main thing to remember is the beginning quote tag and the end quote tag must remain intact.

Code:
[quote] <---MUST be before quote

Quoted text here

----->MUST be at the end of a quote [/quote]

If the post you are quoting is long (more than 2 paragraphs) and you are only responding to one part of it, you can delete what isn't needed. Just be sure to not erase the quote tags.

We are here to help each other. And just like filling out our profile can expedite that help, so can a nice, clean post. If it is 95% quoted text, finding what you wrote can be difficult. Equally difficult (but much more annoying) is using large font or colored font. Neither is necessary.
