AirSense 10 Autoset inhaling motor(ized) sound - soundofsilence - 05-27-2019

Hello everybody,

I'm rather new to CPAP therapy although I know to be suffering from sleep apnea for quite a while now (7-8 years but without a sleep study, as i will continue explaining). Before writing anything else, i wish to address a warm "Thank you!" to everyone on this forum for every bit and piece of information i have found here has helped me make decisions which brought back happiness and equilibrium into my life. You are all living treasures and i can't express my gratitude enough!

Recently, i have had some health issues and to not lose my job, i had to treat most of what i have ever been diagnosed with. This includes sleep apnea which sadly, although it is admitted as a medical diagnosis, the treatment for it (CPAP,AutoPAP,BiPAP,etc) is not yet recognized, in my country. This means that there's no insurance covering any and all costs involved and that the few DME suppliers we have can afford to play ball with prices (as a small example, the HumidAir water tank is over 200$ here - 230, to be precise, compared to the 32$ i've seen on Amazon). Regardless, i had to undergo all the necessary tests and, as i assumed, i was diagnosed (by a specialist, this time and not by my partner or colleagues) with extremely severe obstructive sleep apnea (~88 AHI with a maximum of 112 AHI). So i had to start my CPAP therapy as soon as possible.

I first was fooled into renting a Devilbiss Blue AutoPAP device (i say fooled because the DME rep told me it's the BEST at diagnosing what types of AHIs i'm going through). I've used it for close to 3 weeks and i had a medium AHI of 16 (with a minimum of 3.5 and a maximum of 39). My prescription is 8-15 with a ramp of 15. I no longer use the Ramp feature, as it seems that going straight from 8 helps me both fall asleep faster and sleep better afterwards. Shortly after, i decided to buy one of two devices: the AirSense 10 Autoset or the Dreamstation Auto. The DME representative kept insisting on the Autoset although I've told him i incline more towards the Phillips but this is not important. What is important is that after 15-16 days of therapy with the Airsense 10, my AHI have gone down to a maximum of 1.5 (that only happened once, during a very stressful night) while my usual is below 0.5. I constantly have 0.1 or 0.2, according to both the on screen info from the machine itself as well as the info showed by SleepyHead, imported from the SD card. None of them is central, so far. Life is beautiful, once again.

Until a few days ago (3-4) when i started hearing a very strange noise coming from the intake port of the device (where the filter is). I tried 2 masks (the Mirage FX and the Dreamwear), with or without the water tank, opened and cleaned (although didn't have much to clean) the dust filter... eventually changed it with a new one... it's still there. The noise happens (as many have wrote and talked about) during inhalation and it's beginning to draw my attention during the night. It isn't terrible but it wasn't there at the begining (when i first got the device).

I'm not sure i can post any links with the video (it's uploaded on Google Drive) but i wanted to ask you kind folks if you think i'm just paranoid or if i should contact the seller and ask for a replacement / repair. What scares me is that this particular seller is *not* an official ResMed dealer. They're only Devilbiss certified dealers and my local representative is ... ignorant and cash hungry, for a lack of a better description (when i showed him the SleepyHead data from the Devilbiss Blue i had on loan, he told me that the data is wrong because the SD card i used is a cheap one and the device only works with expensive ones...etc). They were supposed to refund me a second month of rent (i returned the Blue one month earlier, after talking with them and having them agree to refund me the second month of rent - which they also forced me to pay, in advance- if i bought my CPAP machine from them). I'm afraid that the more i wait, the less likely it will be for me to successfully have it repaired or exchanged on warranty.

Thank you in advance!
