What exactly is DVLA? Department of Vehicles of Louisiana?

If so, check their website to see what the procedure is. Are you a professional driver, as in truck driver?

Either way, you have to prove compliance. Usually they say "an average of x hrs per night for x days" but if you are a truck driver, the rules on percentages are different.

Not much help to you, then. Still, check their website and see if you can find anything.

More than likely it is a simple compliance dance. Use your machine like a good boy.

Driver's license?

So the person who's selling you the CPAP, it's not THEM whose license is being revoked. Is it? From what I've seen there are several of them who really deserve it.

It is common in most jurisdictions for those diagnosed with OSA to have their licences suspended until their treating physician certifies that their treatment is effective. This is especially true for professional drivers.

In Queensland it is not simply a matter of looking at hours to establish compliance - although that is part of it. The case is managed by the GP who refers the patient to a specialist respiratory physician. It is the specialist who sets the prescription and judges the efficacy by looking at the data from the xPAP machine and/or subsequent sleep studies. After the physician is satisfied that the patient is not at risk of a fatigue related RTA he sends a letter to the GP who then issues the certificate for the patient to take to the licensing authority.

A severely affected professional driver could be without a licence for some months. A fact that discourages those in desparate need of treatment from seeking it.

You don't say where you are (or I missed it), but in the UK this is done very quickly, but as soon as people can prove, I imagine through compliance they are safe to drive they get their license back. In the US to my knowledge the revoking of driving privilege is rarely done. I think it's because (for all but truck drivers wirth commercial licenses) it's too much trouble for the doctor.
Good luck. Stick with us while you start therapy for advice and support. Hope you're back on the road soon. If you're in the UK they do have an apnea internet group. PM me and I'll find the name if you wish.

Jeeze. I would imagine there are more truck (lorry) drivers out there popping goofballs to stay awake and then crashing on those.
(The individual crashes first from the drug, falls asleep at the wheel then crashes the truck)
