medicare and instructions document - car54 - 08-27-2019

I recently went on medicare and I am trying to get my cpap covered. I believe that I have all the documents except for for this.
Patient and/or caregiver has received instruction from the supplier of the CPAP device and accessories in the proper use and care of the equipment.

My sleep test was done just about 5 years ago and I am being treated by a different doctor. I talked to The DME that supplied the machine and they have no paperwork that states that I was given instructions on the use of the machine even though I was. I doubt if they could write something up and predate it but it might be worth a try. They do have a document saying I came in for a 30 day check up and mask fit was discussed.

I am being treated by a different doctor now. My sleep test was done just about 5 years ago. Should I try to have another sleep test through my current doctor. I called medicare and the person was unsure if the sleep study was still effective because of the age.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

This requirement is nothing more than an owner's manual and/or instructions from your physician. You can download the user's manual and clinical manual from the forum. If you have regular discussions of your CPAP use with your physician that discusses your use of the CPAP and whether you are continuing to benefit from the therapy, that satisfies another requirement. Anyway, do not volunteer to take a sleep test unless you really believe it will benefit you in in some way, or you are not realizing the benefits from therapy you think should be there. Since you know how to read your data, and have already used your CPAP for over 5 years, I'm sure you can easily demonstrate you understand the use and care of your machine. The requirement is simply a checklist item for your DME to complete.
