I appear to have done the wrong thing and just purchased a CPAP machine online without a prescription. The pressure on the machine is too low and I was wondering where to go to have it adjusted. The machine is BMC Luna Auto.
I did have a sleep test some years ago and needed a machine but the doctor stuffed up the report and I was left wit having to hire one instead, this was too expensive. I am almost 81 years.
I thought it was from a Australian supplier but it appears to be direct from China.
Any advice? Mike

Not a big fan of the BMC machines, and if you had joined before buying, we would probably have suggested something else. You may well be able to change the pressures yourself.

I hope an expert will be along in a little bit to advise you about the best starting pressures to use. I don’t think you can go wrong with a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 10 to begin with. After a night of that, you can jot down the report numbers that you can see on your machine and let us know what they are.
Good luck with this — it’s very good that you’ll be treating your apnea.

You don't need a prescription to purchase a CPAP in Australia so you haven't done anything wrong. As OpalRose said, get hold of the provider manual, which will show you how to adjust your machine. In the absence of a clinical recommendation, you can use the auto-titration feature of your machine to zero in on your best settings. I'd suggest you start with a minimum pressure of 6 or 7 and a max of 20. See how that goes and adjust from there. If you find it difficult exhaling against the pressure, use the RESlex feature which will drop the pressure while exhaling.
It's always best to use a software program to display the details of what your machine is doing. Unfortunately Oscar doesn't yet support BMC machines but you can download the BMC software from our private files forum: http://www.apneaboard.com/forums/Forum-Private-Files-and-Links
Alternatively BMC have a phone app, and a means of extracting the basic data via an on-screen code. I suggest you look at the manufacturer's site, which has a fair bit of detail.
