Central apneas diagnosed w/ OSA? - flatlander - 01-24-2020 Is it possible to have majority of apneas on home and in clinic sleep study show central apneas (90%) vs obstructive (10%) and still be diagnosed w/ OSA? RE: Central apneas diagnosed w/ OSA? - Gideon - 01-24-2020 It is possible to have 1 signle obstructive apnea and nothing else but Central apnea and be diagnosed with OSA. We have seen it here. RE: Central apneas diagnosed w/ OSA? - flatlander - 01-24-2020 I went to a sleep specialist today and he said that it is possible to still have OSA but have more central apneas than obstructive apneas on the study. Its frustrating bc everything I have read seems like that is not the case. RE: Central apneas diagnosed w/ OSA? - SarcasticDave94 - 01-24-2020 On my own sleep study with 124 CA and 24 OA "well you have obstructive and need a BPAP." The doc that gave that diagnosis could not see central apnea. RE: Central apneas diagnosed w/ OSA? - flatlander - 01-24-2020 Those are similar numbers to mine did BiPAP help? I told him I wanted ASV. And he set me up with another sleep study and ordered C02 morning levels to help diagnose Central apnea. Also ordered another sleep test following. Something called MSLT. RE: Central apneas diagnosed w/ OSA? - SarcasticDave94 - 01-24-2020 No it made centrals go up. ResMed AirCurve ASV was very effective at helping a lot. RE: Central apneas diagnosed w/ OSA? - SarcasticDave94 - 01-24-2020 multiple sleep latency test (MSLT) tests for excessive daytime sleepiness, AKA daytime nap test RE: Central apneas diagnosed w/ OSA? - flatlander - 01-24-2020 How did you go about getting ASV? doctor shop until you found one you liked? RE: Central apneas diagnosed w/ OSA? - SarcasticDave94 - 01-24-2020 With a hard copy of the BPAP sleep study showing those numbers, I went to the same docs office that prescribed the BPAP. In this case, I was seen by the nurse. I told her my BPAP makes me more tired and have headaches. When I showed her that PSG, I asked how we're going to combat central apnea, does this need an ASV. She said that's her suggestion. It took a few months from there to get the ASV with a new PSG and pre-auth for insurance. Then I chose a local DME that issued ResMed AirCurve ASV. RE: Central apneas diagnosed w/ OSA? - SarcasticDave94 - 01-24-2020 FWIW here's the link back to how I originally discussed getting ASV in my thread. GO HERE Edit PS the nurse was accidentally mentioned as a doc in that older recollection |
