OSCAR suggestion - Portable App - Damiansd - 02-19-2020 Hello, Would it be possible to make a Portable App version of Oscar. My daily driver at work is locked down so I can't install apps, but lunchtime at work is the best time to review my sleep data, so a portable Windows app would be really helpful. Thanks, Damian. RE: OSCAR suggestion - Portable App - Gideon - 02-19-2020 We have talked about this and we are years away from this. A lot of underlying work needs to occur before we can start on this. RE: OSCAR suggestion - Portable App - edfreeman - 02-19-2020 Got a smartphone or tablet? Install Splashtop (or another one of the free remote access apps) on your smartphone/tablet and your home computer where Oscar resides. You can then "see and use" your computer on that device. RE: OSCAR suggestion - Portable App - Damiansd - 02-19-2020 Thanks gents. I thought that may be the case. I'll look into the remote control approach. Cheers, Damian. RE: OSCAR suggestion - Portable App - Jeff8356 - 02-19-2020 Another (somewhat more complicated) approach would be to setup a VPN server, then use a VNC client to access your home network. Pretty secure. RE: OSCAR suggestion - Portable App - pholynyk - 02-20-2020 Their is a project called Portable Apps that makes slightly modified versions of programs so that they run entirely from a USB stick on a Windows computer without installing anything or modifying the Windows registry. This is way more feasible than anything on a phone or tablet, but we would need somebody who knows the Portable system to do the work. RE: OSCAR suggestion - Portable App - GuyScharf - 02-20-2020 How locked down is your work machine? Does your work machine allow you to touch the registry, even if only temporarily? If it does, I would think you could install OSCAR to a USB stick, then set the OSCAR data directory on the USB stick, and I think OSCAR will run. It will update the registry though. If you cannot touch the registry, some changes would be required in OSCAR to make it truly portable. |
