Is there an estimate on when the new edition of OSCAR will be released?

Ver 1.1.0 is undergoing beta-2 testing at the moment, so it shouldn't be too long. I can't give a specific date, though.

Does OSCAR check for updates when it's run? I don't see any option to force it to do so...just wondering.

Currently you will have to check manually by clicking on the OSCAR download link in the banner up top. Currently release is 1.1.1
The developers are working on an a feature to check for updates when OSCAR is run but it may be a while before it's released.

The current release, 1.1.1, does not check for updates. The next release will.
