PR DreamStation Service Required? - WSHenry - 08-20-2020

Hi All,

I was awakened about 12:30 am to find my machine shut down, beeping and displaying the following:

Service Required! 011719-04881

I unplugged the machine from power for a few minutes and then reconnected it. The error code did not reappear. A subsequent self-test and use for the rest of the morning were both acceptable.

Can anyone shed light on the meaning of this code?

Thanks.

See here for the service manual:

I don't see anything about that particular numeric code.

Did you have a brief power blackout or brownout that may have caused the machine to register it as a fault?

It's possible I could have had a brief power interruption. We don't have brown-outs in this part of the US.

We have both blackouts and brownouts in Australia, fortunately far less often than we used to have.

A brownout (significant supply voltage drop) won't always "kill" the digital clock in the microwave and other mains connected clocks, but a blackout always has them flashing and needing a reset.

If you had that situation on the morning after your machine shut down then it would suggest a blackout for a few seconds was the culprit.

Of course it could just be the vagaries of an electronic device having a "hiccup" .. Dont-know

Hi WSHenry,
Be sure to use a good surge protector with your machine. Just the same as you would with your computers or tv's.

Hi,

Thanks to all who replied. I currently have my machine on a high-quality surge protector. My next project is to add a decent UPS unit to cover the few instances where the mains voltage sags or drops out. and run the machine off of that.

I will say, however, that I'd not experienced a "soft" failure like that before or after that one event. I went 5+ years on my prior PR auto machine without any issues as well.

Isn't electronics fun?
