Backup Journal function - RAEDG71 - 12-07-2020

Hello,
I am using Oscar 1.2.0 and find it extremely helpful in tracking CPAP changes.  It is a brilliant app and continues to improve.

My question has to do with the "Backup Journal" function of Oscar.
It definitely backs up the file(s) as it should but has anyone been able extract usable text from the "Backup Journal" .xml file ?

I rely on entering data into the daily Notes tab to track changes in masks, cushions, mouth taping etc.. and understand that this data is saved
in the local journal .xml file.  The problem is I have not found a software application that can display the backup journal.xml file with
the formatting to make it a readable file.  It just either displays it as the full .xml file text (which is gibberish) or I get a error that "no style sheet is present".

My goal is to extract at least the Date and the Notes text from each entry and possibly link it to the "Export to .csv" spreadsheet data so it correlates with the daily
AHI and leak data.

I guess none of this is needed if the "Export to .csv" included the "Notes" data but I did not see an option to include that in the export wizard.

Let me know if I am missing something here and making things more complicated than it should be.
(I do this sometimes.  lol )

Thank you

"Export to csv" does not have an option to include Notes.

The formatting is tolerable if you open the backup file in Excel, except for the Notes field itself. I should be able to fix the problem with the "no style sheet is present" message in the next version of OSCAR.

The problem with formatting is that the notes are saved with full HTML that allows you to do all sorts of formatting etc. when you are writing the note. Thus, there is no clear way to translate the notes to plain text, which I would guess is what people mostly would want.

Do you use any formatting when writing your notes?

I make notes nearly every day and am interested in anything making them easier to access, group, track, analyze, migrate. fwiw, I do not use formatting options. It's a nice feature that I might could use sometime but I'd give it up to be able to more easily do these other things.

I also do not use formatting in the "Notes" field.  I would gladly trade formatting for the ability to extract/view the data in plain text.

Being on the wrong side of the equator and contrarian by nature, I do things the other way around.

I record all my notes in MS Word, *.docx with table, bold formatting, bullets etc.
This record is more about quality of sleep, how I felt, things I might to review later or trial later, under headings sleep pattern, Good Stuff, Bad stuff, Thoughts, plans etc

Then simply copy and paste into Oscar notes, which keeps the formatting, including italics, font colours.

That way I have 2 copies, One in Oscar and One I can read outside of Oscar.

For data analysis I also enter more detailed data into my *.xlsx spreadsheet for further review. This includes all machine settings, statistics from Oscar, Min Med 95% and Max values, hours slept, AHI, oximetry, meds taken, collars, tape etc

A bit long-winded, but entering the data by hand does mean I get to pay attention to it on the day.

That's actually a great idea !   Using Word or Excel as the "master file" of daily notes and then applying it to either Oscar or the export .csv file (to make a complete record) makes perfect sense.   Thank you !

Sounds great. Could you post an image of your MSWord *.docx with table, bold formatting, bullets. I would like to see what this looks like. Thanks!
