Oscar v1.2.0 problem [resolved, see post #10] - Rgn3 - 01-10-2021

I have a new laptop and downloaded Oscar v1.2.0 the windows 10 64 bit version. When the migrate SleepyHead or Oscar data window opens selecting the no option opens a window: "unable to write to the OSCAR data directory    Error Code 5- Access is denied". Selecting the yes option and then opening the Oscar_Data folder opens window: "The folder does not contain valid data"
How do I rectify this? I have used Sleepy Head and an earlier version of Oscar on my previous laptop. Did I need to do anything to migrate the data from old to new computer?
Thanks for input.

What is the path to the OSCAR_Data directory? It should be in your Documents directory.

The Oscar_Data is a folder in my Documents directory- is this what you mean by path?

Yes. In that case I would check the Permission settings under the Security tab for the data directory. They seem to be set to block any access to it.

So I have full permissions to the OSCAR_Data folder under documents. When I open OSCAR after installing it, I get this message:

- Corrupted image removed - Images can not be hosted from a personal computer. Please use an image hosting service/site.

Should there be data that needs to migrate from a previous installation. I even pointed the path to the USB but OSCAR is not finding any data on the USB.

Sorry. I tried to post images of the messages using Snipping Tool but you can see the result. Big Grin
I will try to figure out another way to show the messages.

When you click on REPLY, below the main text entry box, you will see a place for attachments. It is a three step process. First you select the image file on your computer, then you add it, and finally you place the image within the text in the text box. Then you can preview your post if you wish, but don't forget to post it!

I think I got all that correctly - it's been a while for me.

I've looked on my old PC and removed OSCAR on my new PC and reinstalled 32 bit. the same as my old PC.  All the data is there in the same path under \Documents\OSCAR_Data, but I am still not able to even open OSCAR on the new PC. I keep getting this error message attached.

I have checked the Security tab and have full control to OSCAR_Data folder.
Here is an attachment on my old PC that is working . You can see the version in that attachment on my old PC that is working.

Somehow the memorized address of your data directory has become badly garbled.

If you do not have any version of OSCAR on your new machine, the simplest solution is to start OSCAR with a database selection option. (We recommend the 64-bit version if you have 64-bit Windows.)

Open a command window and navigate to where OSCAR is installed (C:\Programs\OSCAR for 64-bit or C:\Programs (x86)\OSCAR for 32 bit). In the command window type "oscar --datadir xx". NOTE that two hyphens are required before "datadir"!

OSCAR will ask if you want to create a database in "xx". Respond "no," then using the file open window navigate to where you want OSCAR_Data to be (probably in your Documents folder). If the OSCAR_Data directory is not there, create a folder named OSCAR_Data. Then continue and OSCAR should run as expected.

Resolved! So the problem was that my AVG Antivirus was blocking Oscar.
Thanks everyone for input.
