Problem swallowing using nasal pillows mask - kysbie - 07-06-2021

Hi, I started using a CPAP machine 2-3 weeks ago and I'm not sure how I should be swallowing while my nasal pillow mask is under pressure. I can swallow but it doesn't feel comfortable doing it and my throat is starting to complain a bit during the day. Might I have strained it? Anyone else had this problem or have advice? Thanks.

Swallowing is normal with any CPAP mask.

You say your throat is "starting to complain". Are you breathing through your mouth at any time? If you breathe through your mouth when using a nasal mask, the throat might dry out badly.

Hi kysbie! - Welcome

At a pressure of 5.2, you aren't going to strain anything. Actually, most adults find that low of a pressure makes them feel like they are suffocating. If your ears are popping when you swallow, try waiting until you have fully exhaled, then swallow before the inhale.

Good luck!
