Filter reminder to those in the West - Deborah K. - 08-09-2021

I checked my air filters in my pap today, and WOW they were practically black. If you are in an area where you receive smoke, even if it's from far away wildfires, you will likely need to change them way more frequently.

Just a heads up. Smile

That's a great alert, for those in affected areas.  I had that issue 2 and 3 years ago and forest fire smoke can be awful.  There was a recent discussion on the radio from an expert that stated that newer research suggests that forest fire smoke can take longer than originally thought to be cleansed from the body - and the impact is cumulative, meaning that experiencing it over several sequential years can have an even greater longer-term impact on the body.

I ended up also buying a room air cleaner for the bedroom, where the air exits not far from my PAP machine.  I suppose us PAP users benefit by having personalized clean air each night - unless there are other elements in our machines that might negatively impact our inhaled air quality.   Thinking-about

Thank you for the reminder. Although mine weren’t black, I’m checking them often and changing every two weeks or sooner if necessary. We have changed the air filter on our AC/furnace a little more often. I’m in SW Idaho and we are getting smoke from Oregon and Northern California. Today we actually had blue skies. Almost forgot what that looks like!!

Here in BC, Canada we are having lots of dense smoke and red sky..

My filters are black after 3 days..

We had a bit of smoke a few weeks ago here in N. AZ. But, it wasn't enough to make matters worse. I think we're down to only 1 fire, and it's near the border of AZ. / NM.

I changed our CPAP filters twice in 10 days during the big fires that came within 6 miles of our house last September. We did the furnace filters also several times--and don't forget the air filters in your vehicles.

If you have a Dreamstation I must advise of a conversation with a salesperson at Supplier #2. He said that the motor in the Dreamstation is under-powered for what it needs to do and if you don't keep the filters clean the motor can fail in just a couple of years.
