My C PAP nightmare - Gregz60 - 09-23-2021

I new to this board , I would like share with everyone of the bad experience I am going through.  A few months ago my C pap stopped working. I had my deceased fathers old C PAP as back up . I reset the pressure settings to approx. what I thought mine was.  Right around that time I would wake up feeling like I could breath. Thinking it was my slight asthma flaring up.

Went to doctors, specialist and other professionals , had x rays and test, no one had any answers. My anxiety was going though the roof to the point of I am afraid to go to sleep.
Stop using my C PAP because the panic attacks were unbearable every time i used it. Been to the ER twice, Emergency squad multiple times,  until I realized it might be my CPAP causing the problems so I contacted my neurologist . She confirmed that most likely the problem. After hours on the internet looking for new CPAP I was able to find one. Most all suppliers were sold out with 4-6 week wait.

I got the Resmed auto 10 going to give it a go tonight but still feeling pretty scared . I'm going to try a 5 min. ramp starting at at 10. My old setting was at 18 and I'm thinking that was too high.

Any suggestions or advise would greatly appreciated.

Sorry to hear about what you are going through.

You mentioned you were on CPAP before, maybe some details of the initial sleep study would help? Then perhaps we could advice you on the settings to put on the new machine...

Then download oscar and give it a whirl the next morning and let us see the results...

RE: My C PAP nightmare - Gregz60 - 09-23-2021

My original setting was17 that was from 2014, I feel like my apnea had changed since then and my setting needed to be set lower. I was wanting to get retested in 2020 but my neurologist close her office due to covid. My fathers old machine was a different brand than my old one if that makes any difference.

Did you old machine have an sd card that could be read into OSCAR ?
It might give some clues to config and your responses to it.

I have no idea where your pressures should be but you now have an AMAZING machine!  I personally don't like the ramp feature. I start out at 10 or else I feel starved for air.  (my settings are 10-14). Best of luck!!

Since we have little to go on, my advice is to NOT use the ramp feature.

Set the machine to Auto Mode, with a minimum of 10 and maximum 15.
Set EPR to 2.  EPR will help you when exhaling.

Be sure there is an SD card in your machine tonight.

Download the OSCAR software.  Hopefully you have a PC or a Laptop to use with OSCAR.

Use the links below in my signature line to guide you.  Take a screenshot of the daily page and use the attachment feature to post here.

Once we see some data, we will be able to guide you or make adjustments to settings.

I'm only guessing, but if you originally needed to start at 17, 18 something like that, this indicates a straight CPAP like what I started on. The ResMed sounds like it's the AutoSet. This may be CPAP as well, but that's like saying a '75 Ford Pinto and a '75 Porsche 911 are both cars. Big differences here.

Yes let's see a standard OSCAR screenshot. On your PC with OSCAR displaying the Daily Detail tab push the F12 key. Attach this file to your post so we can take a look.
