taking my mask off during sleep - tiredtony - 11-03-2021

Hey everyone,

My journey to proper sleep is almost at a good place, thanks to this forum! I've struggled, learned a lot, and made some progress on finding the proper CPAP setup the past few months ( see here ) and thanks to Gideon, I finally got an ASV machine to handle my mixed sleep apnea.

I got this machine last week, and it works. My AHI is low (less than 2). But I can only keep it on for two hours.

Somehow every night I wake up, take the mask off, and set it back on my little holder (its not falling off at night, I take it off).

But I'm not really conscious of why or when Im taking it off. And this mask worked fine with other machines.

Why is this happening? How can I keep the mask on?

Machine details:

ResMed AirCurve 10 ASV

PAP Mode: ASVAuto
Min EPAP 4.0
Max IPAP 25.0
PS 3.0-15.0 (cmH2O)

if you can figure out how to become more alert at the time you de-mask, you should sit up and stay awake until you are ready to put the mask back on. That may sound unorthodox, but sleeping without the machine is likely going to make fully accepting the machine's help harder or longer. You got good charts, and you are on your way.

Thanks. Interesting idea. Will try to be more alert.

Ive used CPAP and Bipap machines all through the night, with same mask, and not having to take it off though.

So it makes me wonder - why is this happening? Pressure setting?

I've had an identical ASV recently, and to combat the air starvation, I added a click onto the EPAP Min. Translation, try EPAP min 5. It may not be the best solution, so see what others advise. I typically do what I want so maybe that's why I got away with doing the edit and it seemingly working fine for a while.

Also you should have had your Board account progress to allow adding OSCAR files direct as an attachment under the post's textbox.

PS you should edit your UserCP data to indicate the ASV as you device.
