I've been waiting for a machine from 2 different providers since the Philips recall. I'm tired of waiting and would rather just spend money out of pocket to buy a new one. Are there any recommendations on what machine(s) to get? Preferably a non-Philips and one that's widely regarded as very good, thank you.

You kind of asked a question with two different answers. As far as new machines, that would be the Resmed AS10 Autoset. The second choice would be the AS11 Autoset. Since you mentioned "out-of-pocket", look at Supplier #2 at their new and used AS10 Autoset models. This supplier has an excellent reputation. Also, the AS10 Autoset is the pick of the litter.
