List of Questions for CPAP Consult - wintermute - 07-10-2013
I'm setting up an appointment with my doctor to go over my titration results and select a CPAP/BPAP machine. I want to make sure that I'm "armed" with the proper questions when I go in so that I get the best technological solution for me.
First off, I know that my doctor prefers ResMed S9 machines. I'm not sure which sub-models he selects for his patients. I remember seeing a list somewhere on this board about which machines to request and which to avoid, but I can't find it. Can someone point me to that post? And just in case - is there similar recommendations for BPAP machines?
It seems like my doctor prefers nose pillow-type masks and these worked great during my titration. I will make sure to ask the doc what should I do when I have bad nasal congestion/post nasal drip.

Personally I use a ResMed S9 Elite and find it suits me fine. Others prefer the Autoset. They both collect data.
I went through quite a few masks in my first 1 1/2 years and settled on the ResMed Swift LT. I liked it the best.
For the nasal thing I use NelliMed Nasal Rinse and a spray prescribed by my MD.
Others will pop in to offer their advice so hang in there my friend.

I hope others chime in, but I'm pretty sure the newer Philips-Respironics System One and ResMed S9 Bi-level machines are data capable as this article talks about, so you shouldn't have a problem with those at least.

be aware that some people, like me, have experienced nostril bruising with nasal pillows. I used an Aloha and liked it but had to use lanolin in the nostrils each night. I now use a WISP brand nasal mask and it works well for me.
I have a full-face mask as backup as well.

In addition to allowing automatic adjustment of pressure, the ResMed AutoSet can also be configured to do everything that the ResMed Elite can do. And it is only moderately more expensive (something like an extra $60, if I recall correctly). If that is not an issue for you, you should seriously consider the AutoSet for "future-proofing".
