Dry nose. Any tips? - cbt2610 - 06-18-2022
I have humidifier on my 10 but still have dry and flaky mucosa. Do you guys have any tips on how to protect them?

What is the humidity level set at? If it is at the default setting of 4, that may not be enough for you. Try bumping it up by 1 for two or three nights and see what happens. If that does not solve the problem, bump it up another notch.
There is also a consideration of the temperature in the tube. Warm air holds more moisture than cold air. You can increase the temp by a few degrees and see what happens.
You may reach a point at which there is condensation in the tube, perhaps accompanied by a gurgling sound. If so, increase the temperature and/or cover the heated tube with a "heat cozy."
Just don't make too many changes too fast. That would preclude you knowing which change(s) help and which don't.

When I first started using a CPAP machine, my nose felt irritated in the nasal passages all the way to the back. I tried the Saline spray the store personnel suggested to help with "dryness" but it really did not help a lot. The situation was barely tolerable. A few months later, I had to get a different machine due to a change in health insurance, and found I no longer had a problem with the new machine and mask. Eventually, I suspected my first silicone mask had a "plasticizer" that caused my problem. I remembered that when I tried on several different masks at the Medical Supply store, the "pillow" nasal mask made the edges of my nose burn a little where it touched my nostrils, so I picked a different mask. Whenever I asked about this the "professionals" would always say Silicon will not cause an allergic response, but what they do not tell you is there are several different chemicals used to soften silicon.
If you do get a Saline spray, look for one without chemicals. The ingredients should be just salt and water.
