2 weeks into CPAP use, slept much better without it - gevn1953 - 06-27-2022

New to the board and two weeks into using a CPAP (Air Sense 11) with full facial mask.  While I consistently get 100 on MyAir report cards my sleep is constantly interrupted..  Despite sleep study findings, I used to sleep through the night except for bathroom breaks.  I feel much more exhausted during the day than I did before CPAP.  Main causes are saliva build up in mask and, despite a really tight fit, the mask slips and I get blasted with the pressurized air on my neck or face.  I wake up at least 10 times during the night.  Only plus is I no longer snore (which never bothered me but was a problem for my partner).

I have follow-up with sleep specialist MD on 7/7 and obviously will discuss with him but any advice on adjustments I could experiment with in the interim would be appreciated.

I take it you are a mouth breather if you have a full face mask. I found it took me months to get use to the machine and I tried several different styles of mask before I got the one that was best suited to me which just fits over my nose.
If you have air leakage the mask is either not adjusted correctly or is the wrong size for you.
As for sleeping better without it.. that's pretty normal, I thought that to begin with.  My Dr recommended using the machine while watching tv or reading at night so you brain got use to it for a few night before trying it over night. I was also told if you get up several times during the night it is your bodies way of waking you as your oxygen levels are getting too low. Once you get your mask sorted you will be sleeping right through, good luck with it all.

I feel you. I'm on the same boat right now. While I know my body is getting BETTER sleep because I don't lack oxygen through the night, I am having terrible insomnia where I can't fall asleep until 4-5AM, and am not being able to function like normal.

While I am also a newbie here, I know the best way for folks in the forum to help you is for you to post your sleep results using Oscar, which you can download at https://www.sleepfiles.com/OSCAR/ and here's some instructions: https://www.apneaboard.com/wiki/index.php/Running_OSCAR_for_the_first_time

I haven't slept more than 20 min with it. It's very frustrating.
