New Blanket - Fiber Problem! - foss - 11-28-2022

I recently purchased a new blanket from the big box store in the cloud.

After using the blanket for a few days, I observed fibers in my A10 humidity take. I immediately removed the inlet filter. It was saturated with a dark blue fiber, all but clogged completely. !!!

I thought to myself, "Where could that come from?"

The only thing new in the house was the blanket. I folded the blanket and put it in the closet and replaced the filter and cleaned the water tank.

Problem solved.

I wonder how much blanket fiber I inhaled?

Beware!

Did you wash the blanket and dry it in the dryer before you used it? There is always so much lint in the dryer lint screen with a new blanket.

Is the blanket made from bamboo? I’ve had a beautifully soft bamboo fiber blanket for maybe a dozen years, and I can only use it under another blanket or it winds up creating tumbleweeds of fiber on the floor even though we never see anything floating around or coming off of it. It’s been washed at least 8-10 times a year (only use it when it’s really cold or so warm that anything heavier is too much) and still fills up the lint trap every time, too. I shudder to think how much of that I must have breathed in over the years before realizing what was happening.

It hasn’t clogged the cpap, but it’s not placed where that could easily happen, either.

Good luck with yours!

I haven't tried washing the new blanket. I don't really think it is worth the risk.

Thanks, Jeff

Toss it in the dryer for a while with no heat. The tumbling may help getting out looser fibers that might otherwise end up floating about in your bedroom.
