A Happy New User - graeme - 08-01-2013

I want to say that my use of CPAP has been a success.
Some background. I am a diabetic with a long family history of this insidious condition traceable back to the mid 1850's! I control mine -- it does not control me! As part of my control, I have a very good medical team to assist me.
During a recent quarterly review by my Endocrinologist, it was noted that it had been some time since I had been reviewed by my Cardiologist. A review was scheduled, with resultant Cardio Angiograms. Whilst recovering from the day surgery procedure, the monitoring equipment continually gave a low oxygen saturation alarm. This was reported to the Cardiologist who arranged for an in home Sleep Test. The results were excessive hypopneas, apneas, and SNORING! A subsequent referral to the Sleep Specialist resulted in a weeks test using an Auto CPAP and mask. A prescription was prepared and I purchase my CPAP and mask. The first week's use was magnificent. AHI less than 1! and snore index less than 1! Now after two months (in winter) A sore throat and blocked nose resulted in an investment in a humidifier. Now I am very happy!
If you have the resources, I recommend that data downloading to allow awareness is so helpful, and access and to this forum has proved invaluable.
So to new or prospective users, I can only say be patient and persist with the therapy.
Cheers and Sleep well! Sleep-well

graeme, good to see you are going so well, diabeties is one of the illness's associated with sleep apnea, I don't think anyone knows which one comes first, I have the feeling it is the sleep apnea. I don't have diabeties, but know like sleep apnea it can not be cured but hopefully treating you sleep apnea may go some way to helping you with your diabeties, good luck.

Hi Graeme
Well done. I'm a relatively new user myself. Although I would rather not have to wear my CPAP mask, I am so grateful to have it I really don't mind. I think it truly is saving my life . . . as it is yours! Nice going!
