Need help understanding setup of a REMstar Auto M Series with A-Flex - mlpoland - 10-11-2013

I'm new to your forum. Wish I'd found you guys, years ago.... I have been having problems with sleep and my CPAP machine for years. I could go on and on with changes to my mask, machine, but never have found the right combination to give me a good night sleep. I know it's possible because in Oct. 2010, I had a sleep study done. I woke up feeling great, but I never have been able to repeat the night's rest I got during that sleep study...and I know it wasn't the "sleep number bed" that thay had.

Now I'm begging for information, can anyone tell me what the difference is between "C-Flex" and "A-Flex" in the "Comfort Type" setup window, of my REMstar Auto M Series with A-Flex? Related to these setting, there is a selection in the "A-Flex Setting" window of 1, 2, or 3. Can someone explain?

Thanks for whatever help you can provide.

Hi mlpoland, welcome to apnea board
I don,t use your machine but just looked at the manual
(you can download the manual from here, section two ... http://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap-pressure/change-cpap-pressure-settings-adjusting-your-machine-with-a-clinician-setup-manual )
A-Flex (auto-CPAP) and C-Flex (auto-CPAP and CPAP) are comfort features, provide pressure relief at the beginning of exhalation
Here explained in details http://aflex.respironics.com/

It wont hurt set the machine on Auto so the machine adjust pressure level to your needs, it,ll gives you some idea if pressure need some adjustment or leave on Auto if works better for you. Whats the AHI?

Zonk, thanks for the link. It cleared up some of my misunderstanding. With a little luck, maybe I'll be able to get a good night sleep, and be less of a grump during the day.Big Grin
