Just got my machine - jeepersheart - 10-17-2013

Hey all, just wanted to let everyone know I finally got my first machine. Its a S9 Autoset with a swift FX mask. According to my numbers from the study my OSA is pretty bad AHI of 55.6 spo2 was under 90% for almost 10% of total sleep time.

Anyway the nurse from the DME just left my house after going through everything with me, she was very impressed with how much I knew about the machine and what not (thanx for all your help and suggestions). I plan on dialing in my pressures a little in time but want to get some data first. I also want to wait till this stupid modem is gone before I mess with it too much (the nurse said she really doesnt care if I change my settings since I know what Im doing and I have experience with CPAP as a medic).

I do have one question on my study results, it said REM sleep was decreased 5.4, anyone have any idea what that means?

Stay tuned for my results as I progress, and thanx again for all your help this site was really a major push for me to get this taken care of.

I have a modem on mine and when they checked for compliance, it didn't show my pressure settings. I changed mine from 6 to 20 to 12 to 20.

I got an error message on my cpap today and it was a modem error. I unplugged it from the cpap machine. Glad you have your machine and hope you have a great sleep tonight

well this is the first morning on treatment and I was up BEFORE 7AM ON A WEEKDAY. Thats huge for me, usually I wake up around 8:20 to my alarm screaming at me then scramble around to get out the door on time. did a quick import into SH and was impressed, max leaks 4.8 95%leak was 0. AHI was 0.51. 95% pressure was 15.5. cant wait to see how I feel as the day goes on.

Great results there! It might take a while to feel the full benefits of your therapy, but I'm sure you feel a lot better just knowing you slept properly!

Take care and sleep well my friend! Smile

Some times we have a reduction in the total amount of REM sleep. I really am not sure of the cause, but speculate that the alien mask and machine keep us in the lighter stages of sleep longer which would extend the total time of a sleep cycle. If that's a percentage it's not too bad. I wonder how in the world they figure reduced REM- was this a titration study?
Glad to hear you're doing so well. Many sleep techs would freak out if you even intimated you might change the pressure. Obviously you impressed your nurse with your knowledge and the research you've done.
I have a lot of fun trying to dial in my pressures. I don't make changes with less than a months data.
My dr. told be not to change the pressure on the machine- he didn't want me to "mess things up". I went right home and changed to my new prescription.
Good luck, keep posting and keep us up to date on your progress.

RE: Just got my machine - jeepersheart - 10-18-2013

No I just did a diagnostic study I actually never did a titration, or saw a sleep specialist for that matter. Everything was through my primary Dr so he gave me an auto right off the bat with the wide open settings 5-20. The nurse I mentioned was actually from the DME who came to my house to get everything setup and all that.

I think this method of titration is the best. Data over a months sleep at home would seem more reliable than one night in the sleep lab, or one night home titration.

Hey jeepersheart, GREAT to hear how well you did your first night on your new machine, now, just keep hanging in there with it.
