Coconut oil in mask wipes - Itsadryheat - 02-02-2014

Happy Super Sunday!

I have been experimenting with making my own mask wipes. Does anyone out there know if coconut oil will break down the silicone mask seal?

I tried doing a web search and quickly became mired in discussions about adult toys, which is not the direction In which I was aiming Smile

Any help would be appreciated. Am trying to avoid the extraneous chemicals in the commercial wipes.

What do you have to lose ? Maybe a mask seal or two till you get it right. I still use alcohol and a paper in the mornings and haven't seen the silicon seal degrade yet .. You might make more money the other way ! Lol .

I have read after you posted your question that coconut oil won't hurt silicone but will latex. The only true way to know is to try it I guess.

Alcohol, I wouldn't use on silicone but that is just me. YMMV.

Hi Itsadryheat,
I wouldn't think cocoanut oil would break down the cushion, it's supposed to be good for the skin. You would have to use a small amount though so as not to interfere with the seal of the cushion. I would think you would want to use organic for the best quality.
Hang in there for more suggestions and good luck.

Typo ... Sunday was yesterday, check your calender Smile
I don,t use any wipes, just wash the mask every morning in soap and water to remove skin oil
Most days I wash two cushions as change cushions during the night

Hahaha I had the same problem when I was searching about sanitizing my mask. Be careful when you type silicone into google, that's all I'm going to say about that Too-funny

don't put in latex or latex and silicone; I can imagine what you will get with that one...just don't go there

RE: Coconut oil in mask wipes - Itsadryheat - 02-03-2014

I agree, don't go there Smile

Thanks everyone! It is a small amount of oil in the wipes. Just another crazy rabbit trail I am following. Started with website on making baby wipes. Anyway, the solution is 2 cups of water, 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, one squirt of neutrogena soap, poured over a half roll of Bounty paper towels.

I will say the wipes have been great for my skin...

are you using this on your face and not directly on your cushion? research what Neutrogena does to silicone as long as it doesn't take you to the porn sites
