Can someone help me.? I think I may have sleep apnea, but I don't know. I work long hours and get about 6 hours sleep each nite, but by mid day I'm like completely exhausted and nodding off while at work.

I do snore sometimes but not excessively. On days when I get more than 6 hours sleep, it doesn't seem to matter - I'm still tired in the afternoon. As far as stopping breathing, my wife says that sometimes I will "chortle" during a snoring session, but that she doesn't really see a stopping of my breathing.

Do you think I have sleep apnea and is there a cheaper way to check it out, other than going through an expensive test?

There really is no way to diagnose sleep apnea properly other than by an overnight stay in a sleep center. Certain symptoms may indicate that you MAY have sleep apnea (snoring, daytime sleepiness, cessation of breathing during sleep for long periods of time, etc.).

BUT, the only way to know for sure is to go in for a test. Do you have any type of health insurance? Most policies cover such a test - it's just a matter of how much of that you'll have to pay.

Well, obviously, the Sleepstudy is the best and most accurate way to determine whether and the type of sleep apnea you may be suffering from. But there is another test that they use called a StarDust test, but I think it is used on people who are already in a hospital on inpatient status, as I was when I was tested.
If you have all the symptoms though, get tested! See you pulmonary specialist and schedule a sleepstudy.
Highly increased chances of stroke, heart disease, mental problems, etc. have got to be the best reasons for doing it.

Not to mention a decent nights sleep.
