APAP for 9 days. AHI 3.86. Feeling better every day. What can I do to improve?

That is the summary for the most recent night? -- though hard to say conclusively from a single night: those numbers do look good to me. Your AHI is 3.86 (below 5.0 is good). Your leaks are great too.

I wouldn't change a thing at this point in time. Well-done

Your profile says you are CPAP at pressure 12, but the data says you are getting up to 18 -- are you using an APAP machine with 12-18 pressure settings?

Edit: you can modify your profile on this forum to specify your prescription settings. (See mine where it says "APAP 9-17 cmH2O".)

All I would suggest is while the nightly leak rate is good, you total leak rates are not so good. Keeping the leak rate down is key to accurate data and good therapy.

Of course, things like taking the mask off before turning off your dream machine will affect the leak rate - so some of it can be 'false'. Just like mask adjustments with air on, but still awake as well.

Other than that, just keep on keeping on Smile And welcome~!

I believe that is just the way Respironics machines show data in SleepyHead. The "Total Leaks" is counting the mask venting (which is normal).

The "Leaks" entry (versus Total Leaks) is detailing the "unintentional" / "excess" leaks, from the OP:
LeaksLeak Rate (L/min)

RE: Loving APAP - Data Questions - readyforsleep - 03-30-2014

Yes, this was the data for last night. Since this is a borrowed machine, the cumulative data is not correct. For the last 7 days my average total leaks were 35.42 and 95% of the total leaks 49. Sounds high to me. I'd like to get my AHI down.

I am so excited to finally be able to think again. I am ordering my s9 auto tomorrow. I have learned so much from you guys. THANK_YOU! [offer to sell, trade or transfer prescription-required item removed by Admin]

Here's the link to ResMed's PDF manual for you mask. Down in the "Technical Specifications" is a graph for the venting of that mask at different pressures:

http://www.resmed.com/uk/assets/documents/product/swift_fx_for_her/user_guide/618217_swift-fx-for-her_user-guide_eur_eng.pdf

Notice that at Pressure 10 cmH2O, your mask normally leaks at 33 L/min. At pressure 20 (your max prescribed pressure), your mask will intentionally leak at 49 L/min.

Nutshell: "Total Leaks" is counting the normal venting for your mask. "Leaks" is the calculation of the "unintentional" leaks (not explained by normal mask venting), and is the number you want to be focused on.

Since your Min/Med are both 0.00 (weighted average is 1.63) -- that's real good. You 95% leak was 12.00 -- which means 95% of the time, you were leaking 12.00 or less (not perfect, but not real bad either). Your worst leak (spike/max) was 19.00 -- and that really isn't that bad either.

If I had those numbers on my S9, I'd get a green smiley-face saying the leaks were not severe enough to warrant the red frowny-face.

Thanks for explaining that~ I saw both, but thought to mention this area as it seemed high to me. I've not used SleepyHead at all, so was unaware Smile I'm rather hyper-aware as leaks were the core of all my own issues. Amazing how well one can do once leaks are handled Tongue

RE: Loving APAP - Data Questions - herbm - 03-30-2014

Wait a minute. He has a RESPIRONICS MACHINE.

The Respironic machines report a "total leak rate", as someone mentioned above, so the "magic number" to avoid is 60.

This are fine (not wonderful) leak rates for a Respironics.

The mask type matters more in a Resmed since it tries to subtract out the "mask leak" and the type helps it do that.

It's really hard to work with one night and an average to make any concrete suggestions without knowing a lot more about your circumstances.

In any case, these are very good numbers (your AHI is under 5 from the start.)

Make sure its S9 AutoSet, not S9 Escape Auto (model name printed next to on/off button)
Both auto but completely different machines
