Shoud I Take My S9 to The DME for a Checkup? - JimZZZ - 07-30-2014
I'm wondering whether I need to take my S9 Autoset in for a checkup because of a weird malfunction last night. After I turned it off for a break and subsequently turned it back on, it displayed "reading SD card" (the card had not been removed) for a long time. The 3-second turn off feature would not work nor would it respond to any of the other controls. I removed and replaced the SD card with no result. So, I removed the power cord from the back of the machine and reattached it. After that, the LED flashed on and off but would not return to normal operation. Then I removed the power cord from the wall plug, waited awhile and replaced it. The device booted up normally and worked perfectly the rest of the night. This morning when I loaded the SD card to Sleepyhead, the hours prior to the malfunction were missing. Should I worry?

No harm taking the machine for check up but I would not worry at this stage if never happen before. Give it a second chance, the S9 known to be finicky. If the warranty nearing the end, might as well report it

It has a rather sophisticated computer as a controller. My machine got into a state where it would not record the high rate data.
I too had to disconnect power and wait a while to get it to reset.
Much like Windows needs to be rebooted every once in a while, so it appears does the S9.
It must have some internal capacitors that take some time to discharge in order to properly reboot; as a few seconds of power down is not enough. Chances are your machine will be fine -- but, it couldn't hurt to have it checked.
(Perhaps you got a bit flip from a high energy cosmic ray or solar flare heavy ion.)

It could have just been a power surge that corrupted the SD card.

I knew a girl once that had that feature...
But as far as the S9 is concerned I doubt it is having a problem. Sometimes it can take a while before it figures out the sdcard when it first cranks up. I suspect it gets a card error message or something and has to think about it for awhile.
Unplugging from the back of the machine and plugging back in should allow for a clean reboot without waiting too long. But then it still has to read the sdcard. Sometimes it can take a while...... oh, I already said that.
Then there's the "watched pot" syndrome. From now on, go do what you have to do in the middle of the night, then turn the machine back on and go to sleep. Don't be making it nervous by staring at it. That's as bad as having to look at that freakie happy/frowny face every morning.

Thanks guys. I guess I temporarily forgot the dang thing is a computer. Probably just a transient anomaly or an undocumented feature as our crashing companions are prone to have. Or...perhaps...I don't want to say it...alienware is afoot

Hi JimZZZ,
Might help to use an Uninterruptible Power Supply if you are not already doing that. Can help avoid power glitches, and short power outages.
