Resmed s9 I want live data link to computer - vicpete - 08-11-2014

I have a resmed s9 elite, and have been watching my results the next day using Rescan software. but i would like to know that a problem is happening as it happens and alert me in my sleep and not have to wait till the next day to discover that say my mask came out of place. so what i would like to have is a software that monitors the resmed machine and sends an alert if one of the data is out of wack...any thing out there? how can i get live data ?

The smartalecky answer would be to sleep at a sleep study center. Laugh-a-lot Since that is not a reasonable solution, I think you may be out of luck. Thinking-about

You could just turn on the Leak Alert . . . . 8-)

I don't think this model has that feature, I looked through both menus and nothing, I am thinking on building an tubing insert with a pressure transducer to alert if the pressure drops.

I think the answer is basically no, without a lot of expense or effort.

There is this "Tx link" stuff, but I'll bet it's expensive and they're not very interested in selling it to the general public. It does say it's compatible with the S9 Elite. Looks like there's a little "TX-link" hardware box with connectors that plugs into the proprietary connector on the back of the S9 CPAP machine. Then there are a couple of pieces of software you need.

Looks like it's not intended for the general public. It says it can connect to the S9 Elite. I bet the TX Link box and cables cost more than the entire S9 machine. Then it looks like there are a couple of pieces of software, and I bet they aren't cheap either. Then the software isn't intended to do what you're asking for, it's meant for in-lab sleep studies.

I think Jedimark, who wrote SleepyHead, did do some sort of live hookup via cable to a Devilbiss or F&P CPAP machine from the computer and make SleepyHead work with it, but I don't know if he made that available or if it does what you'd want.

There doesn't appear to be an audio alert in the S9 Elite or AutoSet, although I think some of the VPAPs have them. Some of the PRS1 machines have an alarm, but it's too quiet to wake me up.

S9 Elite is a fixed pressure machine, pressure stay constant all night with the exception if using Ramp or EPR

Mask or/and mouth leaks can compromise the therapy somewhat. ResMed say below 24 L/m is acceptable, above 30 L/m can affect the accuracy of the data and affect the therapy

For major things like removing your mask, there is already one alarm system that comes to mind: It is called the "Watchful Interrupted Flow Event" monitor, or "WIFE" for short. What happens is if the mask comes loose in the night it can get kind of noisy. So the "WIFE" is programmed to respond in various ways: Perhaps a gentle nudge in the ribs, perhaps a quiet "Sweetie dear, you took your damn mask off again," or any number of similar responses.

As far as alerting you to other apnea events, that would not be a good idea. I mean, by definition an OA causes an interruption in sleep, so you really wouldn't want to pronounce it by getting bounced out of bed.

The best thing is to let the machine do what it does and see what your therapy is doing for you. Then continue to work on the results to achieve a restful sleep night in and night out.

For the problem of taking the mask off while asleep, I'd suggest making sure that SmartStart is turned OFF. That way the machine will NOT turn itself off when the mask is removed. The loud hissing sound of the machine blowing its brain's out trying to maintain pressure in a wide open system is often loud enough to wake people up.

As for "mask alert" alarms: The S9 does not have one as I recall. The PR System One does, but it's a very quiet alarm that does not wake most people up. After all, it's designed to try to NOT disturb the sleep of the bed partner ...
