All sedatives, alcohol included, make obstructive apnea worse because they relax the muscles.

And, since alcohol is a biphasic drug, it is at first a sedative, then a stimulant. It is disruptive of sleep architecture even without apnea.

Of course there is the issue of volume to consider: Less alcohol, less effect; lots of booze, lots of issues! oldman
