SD Card - does that go to your dr appt w/you? - Sparkle - 01-21-2015

Hi All - this goes in the dumb question category

Do you take the SD card w/you to the follow up appointment with the dr?

Thank you
Tricia

Never has for my doc. Some people have posted that they are asked to bring their cards.
Certainly not a dumb question.

If in doubt, it's better to take it and not need it.

Only dumb questions are the one's not asked (Sounds good anywaySmile)
You have the same machine I have and I know my DME could send my report direct to my doctor, but I would take it out and bring it with you if he ask you for it then your smarter than he is because he didn't tell you anything.
I didn't care for my doctor nothing was explained very well and being new to it you don't know what to ask. Heck I don't even know when I'm suppose have my follow up, I'm between Insurance Co. now so I don't even want to call him .
Besides I've gain more knowledge from this forum than the doctor.
Good Luck Tricia

your numbers are looking good!

Here in AU at least, the answer is no. Because of the number of different machines, different formats & software applications required to read data cards, most doctors do not have card reading software on their computers. I suspect this would be the case is US too. The last sleep specialist I visited required me to take my card to a CPAP agent, have it printed out & bring the printout with me. F&P's InfoPlus outputs a full report in PDF format, so I save the file onto a memory stick & take that with me. In this way the doc can read all the data without any special software.

Lazy bums. Any sleep doctor who doesn't look at your SD card data himself during routine followup visits should be defrocked.

However, most of them don't.

Most doctors do not look at your SD card because they think it only has compliance data, and that is the DME technician's job. Seriously, they mostly have no awareness of therapeutic data from the machine. Take the card and printouts of anything you'd like to ask. If you create a sort of presentation of your progress or specific issues you'd like to know more about, it will be a good conversation, and both you and the doc will probably learn something.

The doctor wants to know if you are benefiting from the therapy, and assist you with any issues. Printouts of things that help guide that conversation will be very helpful.

My doc asked for the whole machine next visit. I think he wants to look at the setup as well as the SD data. I neglected to bring the card to my most recent visit, but I did bring some Sleepyhead printouts to discuss with him, and he was blown away by my understanding of the data (thanks to this board).

If in doubt, just take it with you.

Thank you - all of you. This is very helpful. How does the insurance company know that I've met compliance. Who is the machine communicating with? The Home Care company where I picked up my machine? Or the Insurance company? What does DME stand for?

The whole machine!?! Wow - when is your next visit - how many weeks? What did he have to say about how to proceed? Same as usual?
