For what it's worth, I have run my S8 Compact (without the humidifier) directly off a 12 V deep cycle battery on many occasions. Internally, the AC power is converted to DC on a power circuit before being routed to the control electronics and blower. The more expensive S8 have a plug for DC power located above the AC power cord. Interestingly, my Compact also has the plug for DC power on the circuit board. They just didn't drill the hole to expose it.

I connect directly to the 12 V battery through the DC power plug. I run it this way several times per year for 3 to 5 nights at a time. I also ran this way for three weeks straight on a trip to New Zealand. So far, so good.

As I recall, the humidifier is powered off of the AC. A DC input will not be routed to the humidifier.

Anyone have a good photo of this oddball 3-prong 24V connector?

Any chance it is the Kycon KPPX-3P connector?
