Australian foreign minister Julie Bishop nods off during Tony Abbott's speech to NZ PM John Key

As Mr Abbott talked up the strength of the trade, diplomatic and cultural ties between the two countries and New Zealand Prime Minister John Key watched on, Ms Bishop's eyelids could be seen closing for a second or more several times.

At one point, her head even dropped momentarily before snapping back to attention

Politics aside, good idea for someone to tap the foreign minister on the shoulder and advise her to see her doctor for sleep study, obstructive sleep apnea does NOT discriminate whether you're a king or a pauper

Possibly, but more likely in Bishop's case it's due to her ridiculous schedule and the amount of travel she does. Could also be a self defence mechanism when listening to the mad monk prattle on.

Quote:Ms Bishop flew out of Canberra late on Thursday night for Auckland, arriving just after 1am. The fitness fanatic Foreign Minister was up again at 6am on Friday morning for a jog past the city's war memorial and an exclusive interview with Fairfax Media.

Let's see, she was operating on something less than 4 hours of sleep. I think OSA is a pretty big leap.

That's usually my reaction to any politician as soon as they open their mouth.

It was probably the only opportunity she had to get in a little meditating.

Ommmm.

Ommmm.

Zmmmm.

At least she wasn't the one delivering the speech when she was nodding off.
