SleepHead Download Problem - Arend - 03-14-2015

I just installed SleepyHead on my Windows 7 machine. When tried installing the Open GL version, my virus checker reported a virus and wouldn't let me install. The Broken GL version installed just fine. The virus appears to be a hijacker that changes your home page on Internet Explorer to 'blank' and won't let you change it back. I needed to run AWCleaner to fix the problem. Anyone else run into this problem? I had the same problem with my Windows 8.1 laptop some months ago. Windows XP didn't have this problem.

Have you gotten SleepyHead from its officially website at sourceforge_net?

Originally SleepyHead comes as a zip-file. You have to download, extract it in a folder of your choice and use it - nothing to install?!

It's safer to NOT download it from sourceforge. Sourceforge is no longer the official home of SleepyHead. See JediMark's notice, here:

http://sourceforge.net/p/sleepyhead/news/2014/06/sleepyhead-has-a-new-official-file-host/

Here's the new home of SleepyHead:

http://www.SleepFiles.com/SH/

What probably happened is you click on one of sourceforge's "fake download button" ads and got a bunch of malware installed on your computer.

See this post:

PS, we're working on a new Interim Download Page (with no links to the sourceforge site at all - to avoid these issues).

EDIT: if you'd like to take a sneak peak at the Interim Download Page, go here:

Hello SuperSleeper,

thx for your post! I didn't know that!

Before my post I truely I tested downloading SH from Sourceforge again, started it and found nothing with actual Avast and actual AdwareCleaner. It run perfectly. Otherways I would not have posted in this way.

Thanks again!

Yep, the file itself is fine. The reason Mark has moved away from sourceforge is mainly because of those "fake download buttons" that install malware on PCs, but if you can make sure you don't click on those, you're fine. But a lot of folks get tricked by those fake buttons, which is why Mark moved the official host to http://www.SleepFiles.com/SH/ and why the page is currently being updated to an Interim Download Page at http://www.SleepFiles.com/SH2/

In any case, it's a good idea to run your own antivirus scan against any executable files that you download from any source.

I recommend you download the latest version of Sleepyhead from this link http://sleepfiles.com/SH/index.html?TestingVersions

Ignore the beta and testing version warnings. This is the most recent version and has been widely used for over 6 months. It is the only version that will work with Resmed Airsense machines, and has some upgrades over the version posted on the SH site. No possibility of this file being messed with by malware. Just do it.

If you have malware from the previous version, use Malwarebytes to do a cleanup.
