Oral Appliances - How Do You Reset Your Jaw? - steveinmaine - 06-11-2015

I’ve been using an Herbst oral appliance for a while now to treat UARS, and it's working well. The part I’m not sure about is how to reset my jaw.

Each morning I simply lean my chin on my palm for about five to ten minutes, and I can feel my jaw slowly shift back.

Reading up on oral appliances, though, I found out about the AM Aligner. Is that a better way? I don’t understand how one’s jaw can be instantly pushed back all the way to fit into the Aligner.

I'll be contacting my dentist soon, but just wanted to check with others' experiences before making what might be an unnecessary expense. Thanks!

Thanks for the welcomes! And zonk -that article on UARS really sums up my experience, and says a lot more than what I heard from either my sleep doctor or dentist.

steveinmaine I have a link to a local DDS highly recommended to me by a very satisfied customer that which whom I am acquainted that might be helpful. PM me if you want it as I do not want to post it here and get my knuckles rapped .... again Wink

My goal is to win a lottery so I can afford to try the professionally jaw-thingy and then use it while using my cpap machine to see what happens. I did use a boil and bite OTC version and it was definitely helpful but sinus drainage made it unworkable. Interestingly enoguh I have found cpap has mitigated the drainage so may work now.

In my limited experience I would call your icon photo a gaff rigged staysail schooner. Your boat?
