Anyone near KC with a good sleep doc?

Anyone near KC with a good sleep doc?
I'm in the KC, MO area. So far, my regular doc, the RT, and the sleep doctor have all been essentially worthless in this process and my machine isn't doing at all well so far for me. I need a good doctor who will actually listen to me, and is ok with the fact that I'm intelligent and do my own research and ask questions. Anyone in my area have a recommendation of a good sleep doc? Or even just a smart, open-minded general practitioner?

It seems to me that if you had a hundred sleep specialists in a room you would be very lucky to find one that meets your criteria.
I am in the process of looking for the same thing in Southern California.

That was my feeling too. Between family, friends, and myself, I've dealt with a LOT of doctors over the years. Maybe 2 or 3 have been willing to really listen, and even then something else gets in the way - their staff is terrible and won't return calls, insurance won't cover the thing you need, or they're helpful and nice but not at all knowledgable. And it doesn't help that so many people honestly do annoy the crap out of them by reading ONE thing on some guy's blog and are 100% convinced of it. So even if I spend hours upon hours reading through actual trade journals and medical texts, they still assume I'm just another one of those "I read this on the internet" patients. Blech. I hate this.

But really, for anyone who might be in KC - I'm not just trying to be a whiner. I'd really love a good recommendation...

Experience has taught me that the best sleep docs are still in school. That said, have you tried your local university med center?

ALWAYS SEEK THE ADVICE OF A PHYSICIAN BEFORE SEEKING TREATMENT FOR MEDICAL CONDITIONS, INCLUDING SLEEP APNEA.

Thank you for the suggestion of a University. That's actually a great idea.
