Drastic Change in AHI Last Night
Hey all, new here...
Been on therapy for about a month. For 2 weeks my AHI has been <5. Feeling good. I can remember more, and I am certainly not tiered at 5pm.
Last night's AHI was 13????? Are such shifts normal? No nasal pillow leaks or mouth breathing as far as I can tell.
I did have a bad headache and took a sudafed (felt like sinus) and a tylenol.
RE: Drastic Change in AHI Last Night
Could be the meds. Sudafed is a stimulant and a vasoconstrictor.
Could be sleeping on the back.
What does Sleepyhead say as to the type of apnea?

Welcome Hodor,
No, it doesn't sound normal to go from <5 to 13.
Can you clarify which machine you have and if it is an auto set. If so, what does SleepyHead say as to your Average and 90% pressure numbers?

From: "CPAP Pressure: 13i/8e," I infer fixed level BiPap. Just a SWAG.
If Sleepyhead shows an increase in central apnea, I would conclude that it's likely meds.
If the increase is in Obstructive, you might be better served by an Auto Bilevel machine which can adjust to the night to night variations.

Sudafed is Pseudoephedrine, and is quite a strong CNS stimulant. You might as well be taking amphetamines. A good way to ruin your sleep.

Thanks for all the replies! I attached the sleephead data for last night. No leaks (bad) that I can see.. and CA/OA ratio was normal for me (even at lower AHIs).
Fixed level bipap is correct.
I have placed a tennis ball in mattress to stop me from rolling on back, however that might have failed me... hard to tell.
No headache today=no meds... we'll see what happens.
