Summary of Organizing and Setting-Up a Chart

Here are the Cliffs Notes version to organize the Daily screen and take a screenshot.

  • Make sure that your display is set to the Standard view, your graphs are in the default order, and all graphs are of the same size. If not:
  1. To reset the Default Graph Order:  Go to View > Reset Graphs > Standard (Note: Only the Events graph should be pinned.)
  2. To reset Graph Heights:  Go to View > Reset Graphs Heights
  • Resize the Daily screen's left panel's width, so each channel parameter only uses one line and does not wrap the data.  This allows more information to be displayed.
  • Make sure you are at the top of the Daily screen and have not scrolled down. Also, make sure you are displaying the complete day's data, and not zoomed in to any specific time range. (Take a guess as to why we mention all this. . .)
  • To take a screenshot of your Daily screen, select one of the following:
  1. For Windows or Linux: Use the F12 key
  2. For a Mac: While holding down the Fn key, press the F12 key.
  3. Follow the steps here to post an image: [to Insert Attachments]

Organizing your OSCAR Chart

The OSCAR Daily Details charts provide a wealth of information that can allow the forum to help you analyze and improve your results. To get the most out of a chart, it is important to organize it with the most important information. When you upload your data from the Welcome screen, the details of your therapy can be viewed by clicking the Daily tab below the Menu Bar. However, the default view in OSCAR 1.0.1 hides a lot of valuable information, so it's important to set up the page correctly. The best way to ensure your charts contain useful information, use the View menu to Reset Chart View to the Standard or Advanced view as discussed later in this wiki. View Menu Controls: Standard and Advanced Chart View Be sure you are using an updated version of Oscar to use these features.

Turn Off The Calendar, Pie Chart and Right Side-Bar

This is the view most new users of OSCAR see. There is a monthly calendar in the left column, as well as a Pie Chart, both of which are not needed, and hide more valuable information. Also, there is a right side-bar that makes the size of the charts smaller. This is the OSCAR default view.

Using the View Menu In the current OSCAR the View menu can be used to toggle the Daily Calendar, Pie Chart, and Right Sidebar Off. Be sure the check marks are cleared. Keep the check mark ON for the Daily Sidebar.

Using F12 to take a screenshot When taking a screenshot, using F12 to take a screenshot will turn off The Calendar, Pie Chart and right Side-Bar, take and store the screen print in "Pictures" directory, and then restore The Calendar, Pie Chart and right Side-Bar to their previous status. Keep the Left Side-Bar which provides very helpful information on therapy results and machine settings. See the section "Use F12 to take a screenshot" below for more information.

  • Turn off right side-bar Use the F10 button or the menu option View | Right Sidebar

OSCAR Pie Chart.png

  • Turn off the pie chart
    • For Oscar V1.0.1, To turn off the Pie Chart, use the menu option File | Preferences | Appearance, and un-check the box for "Show Event Breakdown Pie Chart".
    • For Oscar V1.1.0 and later, Press F3 or use the menu option View | Show Pie Chart
OSCAR VS2.png
* Turn off the VS2. On Philips Respironics machines an indication of snoring labelled VS2 appears in the flow rate graph as a series of red markers - this often clutters up the display making it impossible to see the other events. Use the Event Flag Selector to turn off the VS2.

* Resize the left sidebar. Check that the labels in the left sidebar are all visible and not wrapped onto a second line, which can force other information off the bottom of the screen. You can resize the sidebar by dragging its right edge with the mouse.

What Charts to Include on your Post

Only the 6 'Standard' Charts below are needed unless additional charts requested. These often fit on a single page, however you may need to vertically resize the charts.
If 'zoomed' charts are requested a standard chart should also be provided for context.
There is no need to include ALL charts unless it is specifically requested.
If you have a question about any specific chart please post it and ask your question(s).

How to order the data charts

The most useful charts for diagnostic purposes are:

  • Event Flags
  • Flow Rate
  • Pressure
  • Leak Rate
  • Flow Limit (Resmed only. Respironics includes Flow Limitation in Events)
  • Snore

The chart order can be set to the recommended order in OSCAR v1.1.0+ by clicking View -> Reset Graphs -> Standard.
An "Advanced" Order can also be set in OSCAR v1.1.0+ by clicking View -> Reset Graphs -> Advanced.

Each chart has a name displayed on it vertically on the left side of the chart.

In older versions of OSCAR, you have to move a chart up or down in the order by pointing your mouse pointer in the label part of the chart, left clicking and dragging up or down to change the order.

The chart height can be resized by pointing your mouse at the border of a graph until the cursor changes to a double bar with an arrow above and below, then dragging the border up or down.

The Advanced chart order is:

  • Event Flags
  • Flow Rate
  • Mask Pressure
  • Tidal Volume
  • Minute Vent.

Use F12 to take a screenshot

When everything is organized your chart will look like the following image with the date, event summary, respiratory statistics and settings in the left column, and the detail charts on the right. You are now ready to take an image to review or upload to the forum.

For Windows

  • If your OSCAR window is not already maximized, press the F11 key to maximize it.
  • Take a screenshot by pressing the F12 button (don't use your computer's "Print Screen" key).
  • Press F11 again if you wish to reduce the Oscar window back to normal size.

The default storage location for screenshots OSCAR V1.1.0+ is C:\Users\your name\Pictures. The storage location for screenshots in previous versions is My Documents/OSCAR_data/Screenshots.

For macOS

  • If your OSCAR window is not already maximized, press the control + command + F keys to maximize it.
  • Take a screenshot by pressing fn + F12
  • Press "control + command + F" again if you want to return the window to its previous size.

From the OSCAR menu bar you can also use View > Take Screenshot

Notes:

  • Pressing F12 will automatically hide the pie chart, right sidebar and calendar, if they are visible, and will restore them after the screenshot is taken.
  • It is preferable to use F12 instead of the Print Screen key on your keyboard or a "snipping" tool.
  • On some computers F12 may not work as discussed. In that case, from the OSCAR menu bar use the menu View | Take Screenshot. Alternatively try pressing the Function key and F12 (or Control and F12) simultaneously.

Additional options

View Menu Controls: Zoom, Standard and Advanced Chart View

Oscar has two preset views available from the View menu, Standard and Advanced. The Standard view includes Events, Flow Rate, Pressure, Leaks, Snores and Flow limitations. The Advanced View includes Events, Flow Rate, Mask Pressure, Tidal Volume, Inspiration time, Expiration time. The actual charts used in the Standard and Advanced Views may vary for different machines, but the Standard view is the most common for evaluating simple problems in an overview, while the Advanced view focuses on respiration. The view is easily set in the View menu by selecting Reset Chart View, then choosing Standard or Advanced.

Sometimes it helps to zoom in on an event or respiratory pattern so you can learn more of what is going on by examining the inspiratory and expiratory flow rate shape, timing and even the conditions that lead up to an apnea, hypopnea or arousal. The easiest way to zoom in on an event is to simply left-click on the event until the desired zoom level is reached. You can then use the left and right cursor to move forward or back in the time-line. You can also select a time period of events or flow-rate by left-clicking on the graph and holding down the mouse button while selecting. Right-clicking can un-zoom. On laptops with a touchpad or touch-screen, you may be able to zoom in and out by "pinching" the zoom in and out as you do with any page zoom.

Oscar allows a more precise way for the zoom to be selected. In the Daily chart view, select Events. At the bottom of the Events window is a slider that selects the minutes that will appear in the screenshot. A good choice for a zoomed view of the flow rate chart is 3-minutes. This chart shows a three-minute view of an Advanced View chart. Before taking the screenshot, you can switch to the Details view without changing the zoom setting. This will allow the respiratory statistics, machine settings and other data to be visible rather than events.

Add a dotted zero-line

When analyzing the Flow Rate graph, it helps to add a dotted line at the zero flow. Zero-flow marks the change from inhale to exhale and exhale to inhale. Everything in the flow graph that is above the zero-line is positive flow, or an inhale (inspiration), and every thing below the line is negative flow or an exhale (expiration). Save an OSCAR chart to your iPhone

If you have a mobile device, you always bring up Apnea Board and select one of your attachments to show the doctor the images, or just save them as part of your pictures on the device.

To save an image from Apnea board (Apple iPhone), select the image so it appears in your browser. Select the image in the browser by holding your finger on the image to get a menu option to Save image. Save the Image to Photos or a file. It will then be available for email or showing on your phone just as you do with any other photo.

This screenshot image shows the Save Photo menu. The saved image will only include the image and not the Apnea Board address.
