Advice please for aerophagia

Advice please for aerophagia
I need a full face mask but I notice I always have more gas with one and I also noticed only when I use a full fast mask I get strange pains in my right elbow which go away as I burp its strange but I think the elbow pain is related to aerophagia. My two questions are
1 has anyone else ever had elbow pain from aerophagia?
2 what are some things I can try to help
Thanks!

RE: Advice please for aerophagia
Lowering pressure a little bit may help lower your aerophagia.  It is an individual thing.  A person may be fine at a pressure of 10, but when they try 11 they get aerophagia.  It seems to be a very individual thing.

I have never heard of elbow pain being associated with aerophagia.

GERD has been associated with increased aerophagia though.

I use a full face mask myself.  I have noticed the most aerophagia when I am lying in bed trying to fall back asleep, but can't for awhile.  I know that I am way out of sync with my ventilator during this time, so the most aerophagia.  On a night when I sleep through the entire night, or maybe wake up once or so, no feeling of aerophagia or stomach pain.

I have had pretty bad GERD my entire life. Yeah the elbow thing is weird but I can't see what else it can be because it only happens when. I use a full face mask and have gas pain from it so I guess I'm assuming because I really don't know what else it can be lol. Yeah I may try and change the pressure down one and see if that helps

RE: Advice please for aerophagia
If you only get aerophagia with full face masks, maybe you could try other types of masks, such as nasal or nasal pillows. They don't have to blow as much air as FF masks. Or possibly you simply need to try a different FF mask. Lots of folks need to do this to find a mask they are comfortable with.

I tried a different full face mask the last couple nights and it seems to help so far. I also moved back my eating. I stop eating by 8 and go to bed by 11 to 1130 so far doing much better hoping it stays that way

RE: Advice please for aerophagia
I too have experienced GERD all my adult life including being hospitalized three times due to level 9 pain from it.  I also have experienced referred pain from GERD.  Referred pain is feeling pain at a location other than the source.

During that last bout with severe acid reflux, I discovered what aerophagia is about.  I still experience it as I raise the pressure level in an attempt to decrease flow limitations and apneas.  I may be lowering the min. pressure on my APAP machine soon due to an increase in acid reflux I am experiencing.

I am in my third attempt to raise the min pressure for better therapy and once again aerophagia and acid reflux are becoming a problem.

More gas with hybrid full face masks?
I have been trying to find a full face mask to use and not had the most success. However I have tried 2 hybrid full face masks and notice both of them made me very gassy even a bit painful unlike the regular full face masks. Anyone ever experienced this? Why could this be and Amy advice?

ttrani01, I merged your recent thread with the previous one on aerophagia. The "gassy" feeling is related to aerophagia and the existing responses may be more helpful to build on than to start a new thread.

RE: Advice please for aerophagia
Last night I increased my minimum pressure from 10.6 cm to 11 cm.  That bit higher pressure was all it took to wake me with aerophagia and acid reflux with it.

I put the machine back to 10.6 and hopefully, I will not have a repeat of aerophagia tonight.

From what I understand I should have my minimum pressure at 12 cm but I can't go there due to aerophagia.  I keep the maximum at 15 and if that night the APAP machine raises pressure often and for long periods I get aerophagia.

So for me, I have to reduce pressure from what it should be to keep aerophagia down and acid reflux with it.

Pain in an unusual location from an action is called referral pain.  It can be quite baffling.
