CPAP Alternatives
Hi All,
I'm A new member and first time posting.
I have been using a CPAP machine (ResMed Air sense 10) for nearly a year now. I was averaging 64 events an hour before my machine and now I'm averaging 4 events, I am used to wearing it now and I cant say it doesn't work, BUT... This cant be the only solution for the rest of my life.
Has anyone tried any alternatives to CPAP. I see a lot about mouth pieces, surgery etc.
I wanted to see what other apnoea sufferers have tried?
Would love to hear your stories.
RE: CPAP Alternatives
I have been using a CPAP machine for 27 years, and yes, I think it will be with me for the rest of my life. But then I have complex apnea. My wife on the other hand has mild obstructive apnea, and she has been quite successful using the device that fits in her mouth and holds her tongue in place. I’m sorry, I don’t know the name of it.
So I guess my answer is that it probably depends on the type and severity of the apnea you have.
I have a friend who has had surgery because even a CPAP machine wasn’t effective enough. That had helped some.
RE: CPAP Alternatives
It's as sensible a solution as an insulin pump, home dialysis, oxygen concentrator, even a wheelchair. It's not as invasive as surgery which might not work or not totally. And it's while you sleep so it hardly interferes with activities like other medical devices will.
You have it at home and take it when you travel and it is not really a burden at all.
RE: CPAP Alternatives
Well, I filmed myself while sleeping and it seemed my apneas were due to open mouth breathing. So I invented a chin strap that is designed to actually work, the Knightsbridge Dual Band. (We are Supplier 37. Please use that link since a keyword search will likely bring up counterfeits.) It was a life saver for me because I was having a very hard time with CPAP.
