Help Tuning CPAP w/ oscar data
Hi,
Got diagnosed with OSA last summer and have been trying to adjust with the CPAP. Unfortunately, my provider hasn't been the best help so maybe this forum can. I recently did another sleep study (w/o CPAP) and no record of CSA but my OSA sits around ~11 AHI.
I'm still having events with the CPAP so I assume it's because my settings are out of whack so I'm hoping someone here can point me in the right direction.
I've tried turning off EPR but the sensation felt like I couldn't breath that well so I turned it back on. Also, I'm guessing my min pressure should be closer to my med? But would I need to turn off the ramping? Just looking for some insight.
Thanks

Welcome to the forum,
Raise your minimum to at least 7cm, anything lower is too low for an adult.
Change ramp to 5 minutes and again raise it to 7cm.
Your Apnea events are well controlled, so lower your maximum to 9.2 to minimize the pressure swings. You may have less CAs since they seem to be treatment emergent.
A trick I learned is to set the mask type to full face mask, the air is presented gentler to your nostrils, try it and see, if you don't like that change it back.
Are you using lanolin to protect your nostrils?
Good luck.
RE: Help Tuning CPAP w/ oscar data
No, I haven't been using lanolin but thanks for the tip. I initially was given a full face mask but found it too cumbersome to use and someone suggested pillows to me, so the lanolin is good to know. I will try these changes out and see. Thanks for the response.
RE: Help Tuning CPAP w/ oscar data
Some one here told me about lanolin, so now I hate to see people suffering.
RE: Help Tuning CPAP w/ oscar data
I suggest you turn ramp off since you have been at this since last summer and don't need it.
I also suggest that you raise your upper limit to 13, as you are bumping against your top pressure and need more to have good therapy. You don't complain about the pressure, so I don't think you should consider lowering it.
RE: Help Tuning CPAP w/ oscar data
Ok I'll try that tonight and see how the pressure feels. I assumed the ramp would help as I fell asleep but I'll try without.
RE: Help Tuning CPAP w/ oscar data
I use ramp for 5 minutes for 2 reasons. I set the ramp pressure to .2cm below my minimum pressure.
First to minimize junk wake breathing events flagged as I start to sleep.
Second I think my pressure chart looks more clear as I turn the machine back on.
RE: Help Tuning CPAP w/ oscar data
Gotcha, I didn't use the ramp last night but will try and see. Here's my result from last night. My events went up a bit so still will need to tune some more.

Did your sleep study show a lot of CAs? If you don't know, please post a copy of your study with the personal data removed. If you don't have one, ask your doctor's office for one. In the US, your doctor must provide one if you ask.
RE: Help Tuning CPAP w/ oscar data
Your CAs increased quite a bit, disregard the ones after going back to sleep around 5:15.
Your deep or REM sleep got hit with CAs also.
The swings in pressure can contribute to that increase.
Try lowering your maximum pressure to 7.8 just below your 95%
Your obstructive events were not terrible. You might see less CAs.
