Hello everyone. I was diagnosed with moderate sleep apnea (AHI : 16), and I've been on CPAP for a month now. However, I still wake up about 3-4 times a night when I spend the full night on CPAP. I downloaded OSCAR to look at my data and I would appreciate some advice. I feel like the most common patterns for why I wake up are : * very high leaks * moderate to high leaks and pressure dropping * pressure getting too low (around 6-7), with or without leaks * pressure spiking without leaks
Generally speaking, I feel like I wake up because of leaks and pressure changes. I'm on APAP mode (min pressure of 6 and max pressure of 12)
Welcome to the forum,
Please post a copy of your sleep report with your info redacted.
Did you have CAs during your sleep study, if not, these CAs might be treatment emergent and will diminish.
Your minimum pressure is too low for an adult , raise it to at least 7 cm, same with the ramp, set it to 7 cm.
We would like to see the following graphs, (in their order of importance) But the whole charts, even the bottom of the flow limit chart
1.Event Flags
2.Flow rate
3.Pressure
4.Leak rate
5.Flow limits
The statistics and device settings on the left side should be fully visible.
Use the F12 key or FnF12 for a mac to take screenshots. You can attach the .png file and insert in in your post
You are mouth breathing through the night and the leaks are waking you up and compromising your therapy.
Consider using mouth tape, a 2x5 strip of Kinesiology regular original cotton elastic athletic tape would mostly eliminate your mouth leaks, or use a SomNoSeal device,a soft, flexible mouthpiece that prevents mouth breathing and dry mouth during sleep.
Thank you for your reply. My sleep study didn't show CAs (only 2 for the entire night). I've attached in the files the charts, statistics and device settings for the night of May 23. I was indeed thinking about taping my mouth or using a chin strap.
Your Flow Limitations are too high and causing your pressure to increase throughout the night. Set EPR to 3, you might see an increase of CAs though, keep an eye on that.
Your minimum may have to go to 8cm when you turn EPR on.
If you use a chin strap, be sure it fits under your chin and only pulls straight up, not back at all Pulling the jaw back will make your apnea worse.
Do raise your starting pressure to 8. Six is a bit low for most adults, especially men. Raise your max a bit, too. I suggest 8 to 15.
Your chart is not quite right. Press the F12 button (FN+F12 for Mac) to copy your chart. This will include the left panel and usually include the items we need to see on that page in the preferred order.

Since your obstructive events are well treated, there is no need to raise you maximum pressure, you did not hit your max of 12 cm yet.
Most of the time it was your flow limitations causing the pressure increases/swings.
Turning on EPR should lower your flow limits, if not after a few nights, then consider raising your minimum a bit. You may see a rise in CAs though.
Raising your minimum might contribute to a more restful night as the pressure swings won't be as wild.
