RE: xirokx - Therapy Thread
Had my septorhinoplasty yesterday, the surgeon told me not to use Cpap machine for 10 days because of the force of the face mask on my nose...I then asked with plastic stents up my nose how do i sleep at all without using my Cpap.
He said "oh ok then use Cpap machine after 2 days" lol What do you guys suggest? Currently sat upright in hospital unable to sleep because nose is completely blocked as expected. Anaesthetic wearing off, some discomfort there, been given pain killers, the next 24-48hrs gonna be fun ? Thanks so much

RE: xirokx - Therapy Thread
I would try napping in a sitting position without the mask for about the same time the doctor suggested first.

Hey everyone, mostly G.Szabo as your help as been priceless... Its been a month post surgery and I did not use my cpap for 14 days post surgery as it did not feel good putting anything anywhere near my nose, was on strong pain killers and was sleeping a lot due to strong meds to help with the pain. For the last 2.5 weeks I have been using my cpap machine religiously again on the settings in the quotation, thats were we last left off...here are the last three days results...I just wanted to check if you still recommend me now using EPR off for a week before jump in...if you need Thank you

It's good to learn that your surgery was successful and you have recovered.
I suggest setting the EPR=1 and minimum pressure to 10.4 cm.

Thanks for your continuing kindness it's most appreciated . Yes breathing out two nostrils is a game changer
Can I double check if it's good to change 2 settings at once? Should we not change one at a time to specifically see what works and what doesn't etc Thanks

RE: xirokx - Therapy Thread
You are right. You might want to start with altering the EPR.

RE: xirokx - Therapy Thread
Ok I will drop the EPR to level 1 and keep minimum pressure 9.6

xerox
glad to hear you are feeling well about your surgery. You are not only correct about making one change at a time, but also by reducing your EPR to 1 that is increasing your min. pressure by 1 in effect. That will have an effect on BOTH your CA events AND obstructive events, lowering both of them i'm sure. Also, if you raise your min pressure now, that will likely allow the CA events to continue even with the EPR reduction. Also, i believe your max pressure is too high. These machines in auto can really ramp up the pressures doing more harm than good. That is not just my opinion. You can prove this by picking a very narrow range or putting into constant pressure mode. You appear to be in good shape, have a very good respiratory rate and i'm pretty sure you do not need a high pressure like a lot of people here seem to need, or get prescribed. And i doubt you need any EPR at all, unless you are attracted to flow limits and that causes concerns. I would say at least give a narrow band of pressure control a try with EPR 0 to see where you are. See if your sleep, rest and overall health improves. I think it will. Good call. |
