Camera shows highly disturbed sleep but numbers are "good"

Our sleep varies from night to nighT and thes type of events don’t always indicate issues that need dealing with. Sometimes we need to just sleep and get on with our lives not everything is disordered breathing due to sleep apnoea

Respectfully, I disagree - because of how tired I still feel during the day.  It's a situation where from an outside perspective everything looks good - but I'm still logging 15+ sleep disturbances every night, roughly 1 every 30 minutes.

Is that severe apnea?  Absolutely not, and after reading the stories of others on this site who are much worse off, I know that I'm fortunate to only be dealing with something this minor on a relative scale.  But we're all chasing the same goal: sleeping through the night and waking up feeling refreshed the next day.  In my case, I arrived at this website the same way a lot of people did, a diagnosis by a series of doctors with limited data who made their best guess and left me to see what happens with a hose attached to my face and figure it out for myself.

I'm figuring it out myself.  My hunch is that there's an as yet undefined problem with my breathing that gets worse if left untreated and better if treated the right way.  I've wasted a lot of time and money treating it the wrong way, but I gained a lot of knowledge out of the experience.  Now I'm applying that knowledge to take the next step and make myself better.  One day I'll know.  But I refuse to accept as normal the current set of rules that the doctors of the sleep medicine world operate under - that it's apnea at 10 seconds but not 9, and that an AHI of 5 is acceptable.  This month I learned that the Resmed algorithm wasn't even flagging most of these events correctly.  I made a lot of decisions based on that reporting, and so did some doctors.

Maybe I have unrealistic expectations.  Maybe this is as good as it gets.  But 4 years ago I tried just sleeping and getting on with my life, and things got really bad.  Now I want to get it right.

An update: things are good.

I'm still on S mode, EPAP 6 and IPAP 11.  30 day AHI average of 0.21 since my last post.  I've experimented with switching to VAuto mode with the min and max pressures limited so that it stays at the same pressure and I get flow limit data, but my sleep always seems to be worse for it the next day and I switch back.  Flow limit was always low anyway.  At this point, I'm not going to attempt to fix what isn't broken.  I look at my Aircurve on the nightstand and smile.

The biggest change for me has been mental.  My anxiety keeps disappearing, I'm happy, I'm patient, and I'm content.  My therapist, who I've seen for the last 18+ months, certainly noticed during my last visit.  I carry a mental clarity and a level of confidence around with me during the day that I'm really, really enjoying and haven't seen in a long time.

Coincidentally, I have an appointment coming up in a week with my old sleep doctor from 2015.  This is the appointment that I made in September when I restarted therapy under a different doctor and everything was going wrong.  We should have a lot to talk about.

Apologies for the tone of my last post.  That was Bad Me.  Good Me is around way more often now.
