Cheyne Stokes respiration appearing often

RE: Cheyne Stokes respiration appearing often
Great question.

The CSR algorithm is flawed.  The vast majority of people who are flagged with CSR that looks legitimate (symmetrical streams of CA's - that look like balls on strings) are actually false.

True CSR is usually associated with heart failure.  Also maybe opiods, etc. and certain neurological conditions.

Why does Resmed flag these as CSR, when algorithm does not take into account the lack of CA?

Aquon,

I merged your threads as both threads are related to your aunt's therapy.  It's best to keep these related questions and charts to one thread so that those responding can see her history.

As far as why ResMed uses the label CSR is puzzling.  As stated above, CSR flow graphs usually show an association with CA's.  Your aunt's graph shows "clustered' Obstructive events, which leans toward Positional Apnea. The CSR flagged is more than likely Periodic Breathing caused by sleeping on her back and "chin tucking".

Read this to better understand positional apnea.
